The Simple License Sharing feature is available for Single User Licenses of AGi32 version 18 and earlier at no cost. Users can share one license between two computers. This is a great option for those who want to use the software on their work computer and one other machine (home or laptop). The License Sharing feature requires a persistent Internet connection and all shared computers must be using the same major program version (ex: version 18).

Learn how to setup Simple Sharing (video)

Important: License Sharing requires a persistent Internet connection on both computers!

Setup Simple Sharing:

  1. Install AGi32 on computer #1 and request a Single User License key from the Installation License Manager when it appears on startup. The key is installed automatically when you complete the process. If you have already registered this computer as a Single User License, proceed to step 2.
  2. With computer #1 registered as a Single User License, select Installation and License Manager...from the Tools menu (on computer #1).
  3. Select Set up License Sharing.
  4. Enter a Sharing Name (see below) and an e-mail address. Click Submit.

Lighting Analysts registration system generates a Shared License Key that is required by the second computer that you wish to share the license with. The key will be sent to the e-mail address provided, allowing you to forward it to the shared computer (computer #2).

Note:The Sharing Name is used to identify which computer/user is currently using the license. It can be anything you want, but it is recommended that you NOT use the same name for both computers. For Example if you would like to share your license between your office and home computer, a likely scheme would use the names: "Home" and "Office".

To Activate the License on the Shared Computer (computer #2):

  1. Install the software in the normal manner.
  2. From the Installation License Manager, select Shared License.
  3. Enter the Shared License Key (cut and paste from e-mail, if possible)
  4. Click Activate.
  5. Enter the user information (name and e-mail)
  6. Click Activate
  7. If successful, the program will connect to the shared license.

To Disable/Terminate License Sharing from computer #1:

  1. Open the program, select Installation and License Manager... from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Convert to Single User License.
  3. License sharing will stop and computer #2 will no longer be licensed (will act as a new installation). Computer #1 will have the Single User License key and continue to operate.

To Disable/Terminate License Sharing from computer #2:

  1. Open the program, select Installation and License Manager... from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Deactivate.
  3. License sharing will stop and computer #2 will no longer be licensed (will act as a new installation). Computer #1 will have the Single User License key and continue to operate. The Simple Sharing key remains active and you can now share the license from computer #1 with a different computer.

To move the license from computer #1 to computer #2 and allow computer #2 to share with a new computer:

  1. Open the program on computer #1, select Installation and License Manager... from the Tools menu.
  2. Select Deactivate.
  3. Computer #1 will no longer be licensed (will act as a new installation). Computer #2 will now have the Single User License key and will act as the new computer #1 (share originator). The same sharing key is still active and can be used from a new computer which will now act as computer #2 (shared computer).

Details:   License Sharing only allows one concurrent use of the program. If the shared license is in use by another user when the program is started, you will be notified and the license allocation information will be displayed.   If the original installation of the program (where sharing was originated) is uninstalled, license sharing will continue to remain active for the shared computer.   The License Sharing option allows any shared computer to permanently check out the shared license. This will make the license unavailable to other shared installations. Be careful who you share with!

Taking a Shared Computer Offsite With No Internet Connection:   Occasionally you may wish to take your computer (i.e. laptop) offsite, disconnected from a persistent internet connection, and still have the ability to open the program and use it. With License Sharing you can do just that, however the shared license key MUST be Checked Out before disconnecting it from the internet. While the shared license is checked out you do not have to be connected to the internet to use the program, however only the computer that has the license key checked out may use the program until either the license key is checked back in, or the check out time expires.

To check out a shared license key, do the following:

Note: you must be connected to the internet to perform these steps successfully

  • Open the program on the computer where you wish to check out the license.
  • Open the Installation and License Manager from the Tools menu and click on the Check Out Shared License... button (if you do not see this button, then the program has not been properly shared. See instructions above for sharing)
  • With the Check Out Shared License dialog box open, select your check out period and click the Check Out button To check in a license, do the following:

Note: you must be connected to the internet to perform these steps successfully

  • Open the program on the computer where you wish to check in the license.
  • Open the Installation and License Manager from the Tools menu and click on the Check In Shared License... button (if you do not see this button, then the program has not been properly shared. See instructions above for sharing a license key)

When Upgrading a License:  The installation of a product update will NOT terminate any shared licenses you have established, however please note that a license sharing key will only work for computers that are within the same major version level. If upgrading from AGi32 17 to AGi32 18, a new license share will need to be created, and can only be shared with other installations of AGi32 18.
